Sun Cut Flat is an American self-produced multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and recording artist based in New York City. Sun Cut Flat founded the Brooklyn-based indie label Family Tapes. SCF and friends recently released a series of classic soul covers called Nico Covers, Vol. 1 to highlight their love of songwriting and practice vintage recording techniques. SCF's sound is based on ambient sonic textures, analog synth tones, atmospheric guitars, and chunky bass over driving rhythms. Following up another full length LP of originals in 2022, Too Bad for the Lovesick, SCF has released a string of exciting singles between 2023-2025 that have included several new fan favorites - Here I Am, Promise, Reset My Life, Tried to Harmonize, Analog Edm Bro, More Than Enough, Shemz, and Wildfire. Additionally, Sun Cut Flat's recent and ongoing collaboration with Atlanta based artist stephenxjones has seen the Brooklyn artist experimenting in production and songwriting within the Alternative Hip Hop space with tracks like Be You, Appreciate What You Have, and Off Top. From December 2024 - June 2025, the dynamic duo has released 27 tracks together under the side-project known as Family Tapes, filling out a playlist called Underground Hip Hop to play Chess to - Best BoomBap / Conscious Rap 2025. Created in the studio from an old upright piano, dusty vinyl samples, Nico's Fender Jazz Bass, and samplers such as the MPC 1000 and SP404mk2, it's fire.
